North Arlington, New Jersey, USA is the Southernmost borough in Bergen County, approximately one mile square and built on a section of Bergen Hill between the City of Kearny in Hudson County to the South and the Town of Lyndhurst to the North. North Arlington slopes down on both sides from Ridge Road to the Passaic River on the West and the "Jersey Meadowlands" to the East. The spire of Queen of Peace Church can be seen as far away as the skyscrapers of Manhattan. About one quarter of the Borough is occupied by Holy Cross Cemetery (bottom right in Google Earth photo above).
In the 1950's and 1960's, many residents (mostly of Irish or Italian heritage) left nearby Jersey City and Newark for the "suburbs" of Bergen County. Today, over fifteen thousand residents of many backgrounds crowd North Arlington, leaving very little undeveloped space. Yet, the Borough retains a "small town" character...over forty years after the events of Lost Adolescence.
